Whirlybird Installation · Lysterfield
Lysterfield's brick veneer homes from the 1980s and 90s were mostly built without roof ventilation, so their roof cavities trap summer heat and, just as significantly here, hold onto moisture through the cooler months under the shade of the bordering bushland and the area's higher foothill rainfall. A whirlybird uses wind and rising heat to continuously draw that trapped air out, easing the heat load on the rooms below in summer and reducing the condensation risk that comes with a roof cavity that stays damp for longer than in a more open suburb. On tile roofs we flash the turbine in under the tile course; on colorbond metal it's a straightforward fit into the sheeting.
Lysterfield's bushland shade and above-average foothill rainfall make moisture control as strong an argument for venting an older roof cavity here as the usual summer heat relief.
Local roof weather
Lysterfield sees around ~3 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
