Whirlybird Installation · Highett
Highett's post-war brick veneer homes were built with minimal roof ventilation by today's standards, so the roof cavity heats up through summer and holds that heat well into the evening. A whirlybird draws that hot air out continuously using wind and rising heat, no power required. On the concrete and terracotta tile roofs common across the suburb, we flash the turbine in carefully under the tile course so it stays weatherproof despite the salt-laden bayside air that can accelerate wear on poorly sealed fittings. With Highett's open, sun-exposed streets, the summer heat-load benefit is the main driver here.
Highett's bayside exposure means roofs take on more direct sun and salt air than inland suburbs, so a well-flashed, corrosion-resistant whirlybird install matters here more than in a typical suburban street.
Local roof weather
Highett sees around ~6 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
