That heat radiates down into the ceiling space well into the evening on a hot day. A whirlybird uses wind movement, of which there's no shortage on these open paddocks, and rising heat to continuously exhaust the roof cavity, cutting that heat load. On the concrete-tile roofs common here, we lift the tile course, cut a clean penetration, bed the flashing watertight and seat the turbine so it performs on an exposed rural roof, not just a sheltered suburban one.

Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.

Cut & flash
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.

Seat & seal
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Roof types in Hidden Valley
