Whirlybird Installation · Hanging Rock
Many of the older farmhouses and rural-residential homes around Hanging Rock were built without any real roof ventilation, so heat builds up in the cavity through summer and radiates down into the rooms below well into the evening. A whirlybird continuously draws that hot, trapped air out using nothing but wind and convection, and on an exposed rural property with plenty of open-sky wind, the turbines work efficiently for exactly that reason. In winter the same venting clears the moist air that would otherwise sit in the cavity and work into old timber roof framing. We fit the turbine through a neatly cut penetration, bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof for the district's conditions, and reinstate the tiles or metal roofing around it.
Hanging Rock's open, wind-exposed rural properties are ideal ground for whirlybirds — the consistent wind keeps the turbines turning efficiently, continuously clearing the summer heat and winter damp that build up in an unvented rural roof cavity.
Local roof weather
Hanging Rock sees around ~2 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
