Why Hampton Park roof cavities overheat

Hampton Park's established homes, many built before roof ventilation was standard, trap summer heat and moisture in the roof cavity with nowhere to escape. A whirlybird uses wind and rising heat to continuously draw that hot, moist air out, cutting ceiling heat load in the house below and reducing moisture that can otherwise sit against roof timbers. It's a straightforward retrofit on the concrete tile common across Hampton Park's established streets, and one of the more cost-effective upgrades for an older home.

Hampton Park's mix of shaded and open pitches means some roofs hold onto trapped heat and moisture longer than others, so ventilation makes a genuine difference depending on a home's exact aspect.

The process

How we install a whirlybird

1

Assess the cavity

We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.

2

Position for airflow

Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.

3

Cut & flash

On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.

4

Seat & seal

The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.

Roof types in Hampton Park

Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.

Our standard

Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.

Hampton Park whirlybird installation — your questions

Yes — homes built before ventilation was standard often have no way for hot, moist roof cavity air to escape, and a whirlybird gives it a continuous exit point using wind and rising heat.
Whirlybirds sit low on the roofline and are available in colours to match your roof, so they blend in rather than standing out.
It depends on your roof area and cavity volume. We assess your specific roof at the free quote and recommend the right number rather than a one-size-fits-all figure.
