Whirlybird Installation · Glenferrie South
Glenferrie South's period terraces and villas were built long before roof ventilation was standard, and under the heavy street-tree canopy that shades this pocket, the roof cavity stays damp for longer than it would on a sun-exposed roof. That trapped moisture works against old timber roof framing over time. A whirlybird uses wind movement and rising heat to continuously exhaust the cavity, keeping air moving rather than sitting still under the canopy. On the steep-pitched terracotta and slate roofs common here, we lift the tile or slate course carefully, cut a clean penetration, bed the flashing watertight and seat the turbine so the period roofing isn't compromised.
Glenferrie South's heavy canopy and steep, densely packed rooflines keep roof cavities shaded and slow to dry, so a whirlybird here is mainly about clearing that trapped moisture rather than cutting summer heat.
Local roof weather
Glenferrie South sees around ~6 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
