Whirlybird Installation · Edithvale
Edithvale's 1950s-70s weatherboard and brick veneer homes were mostly built without any real roof ventilation, so heat and moisture both build up in the cavity above the ceiling. A whirlybird uses wind movement to spin a turbine set high on the roof, continuously drawing that trapped air out. Being this close to the coast, the moisture side matters as much as the heat — sea air adds humidity that can condense in an unvented cavity overnight, especially on the more shaded roof faces back toward the wetlands. On the sun-exposed streets closer to the beach, venting also takes the edge off how hot the roof cavity gets through summer afternoons.
Edithvale's coastal humidity adds to the moisture load in an unvented roof cavity, so a whirlybird earns its keep here on both fronts — clearing damp air in the cooler months and venting heat through summer.
Local roof weather
Edithvale sees around ~6 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
