Whirlybird Installation · Derrimut
Many of Derrimut's 1990s and 2000s spec-built estate homes were finished with minimal roof ventilation, and with light tree cover and open estate streets exposing the roof to sun for most of the day, that cavity heat has nowhere to go. A whirlybird uses wind and rising heat to draw that hot air out continuously, rather than letting it bake under the concrete tile or Colorbond sheeting until evening. On tile roofs we flash the turbine into the existing course; on Colorbond it's a straightforward metal-roof fitting with a matching flashing kit. Once it's in, the ceiling space runs noticeably cooler on hot days, which takes some of the load off air-conditioning in rooms directly underneath.
With little tree cover to shade Derrimut's estate roofs, sun exposure drives most of the heat build-up in the cavity, and a whirlybird's continuous airflow is a straightforward way to vent that heat before it radiates down into the rooms below.
Local roof weather
Derrimut sees around ~8 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
