Whirlybird Installation · Caulfield
Many of Caulfield's period homes have large, timber-framed roof cavities built with little or no ventilation, so heat radiates down into the rooms below well into the evening and, in winter, moisture condenses in the cavity instead of escaping. A whirlybird fixes both problems by continuously drawing air out of the roof space using nothing but wind and convection. Under Caulfield's heavy tree canopy, the moisture side of that equation matters as much as the heat — damp roof timbers under constant shade are exactly the conditions that encourage rot and mould. We lift the tiles at the vent point, cut a neat penetration, bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof, then seat the turbine and reinstate the surrounding tiles to match the existing roofline.
Caulfield's older, densely shaded homes trap both summer heat and winter damp in an unventilated roof cavity — a whirlybird continuously clears that air, easing the heat load in summer and the mould risk in a shaded, damp winter roof.
Local roof weather
Caulfield sees around ~6 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
