Whirlybird Installation · Carnegie
Carnegie's interwar and post-war homes were built without any real roof ventilation, so heat and moisture both tend to sit trapped in the cavity with nowhere to go. A whirlybird changes that using wind and rising heat alone, continuously drawing hot air out through summer so the ceiling below doesn't keep radiating heat into the evening. In the cooler, wetter months, the same constant airflow clears the condensation that would otherwise sit in the roof space against the timber. Given Carnegie's rainfall runs a touch above the Melbourne average, that moisture-clearing role matters as much here as the summer cooling does.
Carnegie's older, unventilated roof cavities combined with its above-average rainfall mean whirlybirds do double duty here — cutting summer heat load and clearing the moisture that builds up through wetter stretches.
Local roof weather
Carnegie sees around ~5 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
