Whirlybird Installation · Burwood Heights
Many of Burwood Heights' post-war brick veneer homes were built well before modern roof ventilation standards existed, leaving the roof cavity above the ceiling with little way to shed heat or moisture. The suburb's established tree canopy and above-average rainfall near the foothills mean these older roof spaces also trap humid air for longer after wet weather, which over time can encourage timber rot in the frame and sarking. A whirlybird uses wind and rising heat to continuously draw that hot, moist air out. We lift the tile course, cut a clean penetration, fit and seal the flashing watertight, and seat the turbine, sizing the number fitted to the actual roof area.
Burwood Heights' tree cover and higher rainfall near the foothills mean trapped roof-cavity moisture is as much a concern here as summer heat, so ventilation does double duty protecting both comfort and timber.
Local roof weather
Burwood Heights sees around ~6 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
