Whirlybird Installation · Bonbeach
Bonbeach's mid-century beach houses often have compact roof cavities that weren't built with much ventilation in mind, and with little tree cover to shade the roofline, these homes take the full force of the sun through the warmer months. A whirlybird uses wind and rising heat to continuously draw hot air out of the cavity, which eases the load on the rooms below during summer. It also helps clear humid, salt-laden air that can otherwise sit in the roof space near the coast. We choose a marine-grade turbine and flashing suited to the salt exposure and fit it to suit concrete tile or colorbond roofing.
Bonbeach's open, low-canopy blocks mean roofs get direct sun for most of the day, so venting the cavity does real work reducing summer heat load, while corrosion-resistant fittings matter more here given the coastal air.
Local roof weather
Bonbeach sees around ~4 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
